EMDR can help you recover from distressing life experiences big and small.

From EMDRIA.org “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.”

EMDR can be effective for significant trauma, like an assault or an accident, as well as more low-level chronic negative experiences consistent with developmental trauma. Developmental trauma is often caused by unavailable or unsupportive caregivers but also other adverse experiences during formative years.

You’re tired of feeling caught in this cycle:

  • Plagued with anxiety and worry

  • Low self-worth and self-esteem

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, avoiding things that remind you of traumatic experiences

  • Talk therapy isn’t helping as much as you thought it would

EMDR is an evidence-based approach that uses eye movements to reprocess memories and heal unprocessed images, emotions, negative beliefs, and brings the body into healing in a way that talk therapy just doesn’t get to.

How does it work?

“When a trauma occurs, it seems to get locked in the brain with the original picture, sounds, thoughts, and feelings. The eye movements we use in EMDR seem to unlock the system and allow the brain to process the experience. That may be what is happening in REM of dream sleep, the eye movements may help to process the unconscious material. It is important to remember that it is your own brain that will be doing the healing and that you are the one in control.”

Shapiro, 2018, p. 446

EMDR uses what’s known as the Adaptive Information Processing model. We use a 4 pronged “laser'' and identify the mental image associated with an event, the thoughts you have about yourself, the emotions you experience now, and where you experience that in your body to activate a memory. Then Bilateral Stimulation (eye movements, audio tones, or tapping) is utilized to reprocess the memory. Read more about EMDR here.

Half Day Sessions: Up to 4 hours $600

Multi day intensives are also available, please inquire about pricing and scheduling. Costs range from $2,700 to $3,000. Available on a limited basis

  • Insurance does cover EMDR in one hour sittings but does not cover intensives.

Insurance companies limit the amount of time we can spend in session. This limits the quality of care and the amount of progress you can make in each treatment session.

For that reason, we do not work with insurance companies for the EMDR Intensive Program. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care for you.

  • EMDR is a healthcare service and you should be able to use your HSA or FSA account. Check with your program administrator to be certain.

  • Individuals who have good emotional regulation and coping skills, good internal resources and social support.

It’s important that your current day to day life is stable and secure and you are not experiencing current or ongoing significant stressors.

Alert your provider if you have a history of seizures, eye pain, a Dissociative Disorder, or are pregnant.

  • This varies person by person and will be discussed further during a phone consultation.

  • For folks doing half and full day intensives, I ask that you commit to at least 1x every 4 weeks to hold your spot and work through material in a timely manner. 3 day intensives can be done at any interval.
